Blog... yes or no?

Thinking about blogging over here for a while.

Thoughts, ideas, yay, nay…. and if so… photography inspired content or random things or inspiration I seem to see every single day?

2020 will surely go down as the year that went oddly weird. Just 3 months in and many are looking forward to 2021. The world seems to have been bumped off its axis and while so many work tirelessly and sacrifice so much - to get things to safe and well and normal - many cannot.

While we stay in our homes as we ride the COVID-19 rollercoaster, I have decided to participate in the Front Steps Project.  Search and you will see the brilliant idea by Cara Soulia, of Needham, MA.  Her idea was picked up by CNN and now many around the globe are joining in.

I am documenting this time of our lives with 5-minute front steps portraits.  As of late I have been walking around town, meeting with some who have requested and asking others as we stroll.  My goal - to document what you were doing when the world sort of halted.

Many have asked if I am taking payment, and no, I am not.  This is a project to engage, meet and distract - all from a distance, of course.  Instead, I have decided to encourage those photographed to donate to the MSU FAME Program, check out the link here: https://myprofile.advancement.msu.edu/controls/email_marketing/view_in_browser.aspx?sid=1393&gid=3&sendId=1207780&ecatid=72&puid=57c54f04-71c9-4c38-af9f-1bf237bc1dd8&fbclid=IwAR1nBzhjm_Q5iF4LpN4i452En6VPPV3r_Ef9YLyN-B0ikhDJWPLIVvce0DU

Here is what to expect:

  • Contact me with a couple dates and times you are available in the next couple weeks

  • We will schedule and the day of you will receive a text indicating my arrival

  • I have been using a larger telephoto/long-range lens to keep my distance and there is no - none - zip - zero contact during the session.

  • Then I will move on.  You will receive a digital copy of your image in a couple days.

This MUST be fun.  Is it a birthday?  Decorate the steps.  Did you just score some TP and Lysol?  Use them as props.  Use letter boards or dry erase signs or a piece of paper and make a quick note.  Does everyone now have a gadget attached as an appendage?  Bring it to the porch.   Do your kids dress up all day?  Fantastic, bring on the superhero and princesses.  Your imagination is the limit.

And if you live outside of Bath, well, I can certainly swing by and grab a quick photo as I drive home - after getting our groceries, gas, carryout or physician appointments - per the Stay-at-home order given earlier this week. :)

If you are a photographer reading this, consider joining this project.  As area photographers collaborate, I will add to Facebook posts.

While we distance ourselves physically, emotionally I feel a sense of connectivity to others not felt in some time.  Thank you for your interest and I look forward to seeing you on your steps soon.

#frontstepsproject will end when the Stay-at-home order ends, or that is the plan right now.

Stay well.  Be well.
